Anal Training for Beginners: A Slow, Safe Plan

Anal Training for Beginners: A Slow, Safe Plan – LustSutra

“Anal training” sounds more intense than it is. It simply means getting used to anal play gradually, by starting with a small toy and moving up in size only when the smaller one feels easy. There is no exam at the end and no size you are meant to reach. Plenty of people find one comfortable plug and stay there happily.

What training does is replace guesswork with a plan. Most bad first experiences come from going too big, too fast, with too little lube. Below is a slow, week-by-week approach, the sizes that fit each stage, and the signals that tell you to stop. It is written for adults trying this alone or with a partner, and it assumes you have no health problems in that area. If you do, speak to a doctor first.

Why the body needs time

The anus is ringed by two sphincter muscles. The outer one you can tighten and relax on purpose; the inner one works on its own and tends to clench when you feel nervous or rushed. Training is really about teaching that inner muscle that nothing bad is going to happen, so it relaxes sooner each time.

Two more facts shape everything that follows. First, the anus makes no natural lubrication, so lube is not optional. Second, the lining is thin and can tear if forced, which is why pain is a signal to stop rather than something to push through. Our article on anal toy myths covers a few other things people commonly get wrong.

The three rules that never change

  • Only toys with a flared base. The muscles can draw an object inwards, and a toy without a wide base can be pulled out of reach. That means a hospital visit. Our flared base explainer shows what a safe base looks like. Every plug we sell has one.
  • Plenty of lube, and the right kind. A thicker water-based lube works with every toy material. Silicone lube lasts longer but can damage silicone toys. The water-based vs silicone lube guide explains when to use which.
  • No numbing creams or sprays. They hide the pain that tells you to slow down, which is exactly how injuries happen.

Plug sizes for each stage

The number that matters is the widest point of the plug, not its length. We use the same bands as our butt plug size guide, where you will find the stated measurements of every plug we stock.

StageWidest pointExample from our rangeMove on when

2. Medium32 to 38 mmB Ball Uno Anal Plug (34 mm), ₹1,199The same is true at this size, over several separate sessions
3. LargerOver 38 mmOnly once medium feels easyThere is no stage 4 to reach: stop wherever you are comfortable

You do not need to buy a full set at once. Start with one small plug. If you find you enjoy it, add a medium later. A tapered tip and a slim neck (the narrow part just above the base) make a plug far easier to wear for longer.

A week-by-week training plan

Think of this as a rough guide rather than a schedule. Some people move faster, many move slower, and that is fine.

  1. Week 1: get comfortable without a toy. After a warm bath or shower, use a lubed finger with a short nail to touch and gently massage the outside. Breathe slowly. If it feels good, insert a fingertip and simply rest there. The goal is relaxation, not depth.
  2. Week 2: introduce the small plug. Lube the plug and yourself generously. Press the tip against the opening and wait, breathing out slowly, until you feel the muscle soften, then ease in a little. Stop, breathe, ease in more. Leave it in place for a few minutes only.
  3. Weeks 3 to 4: build wear time. Stay with the small plug and slowly lengthen sessions towards 15 to 20 minutes. Try it while lying on your side, which many people find the most relaxed position.
  4. Week 5 onwards: try the medium size, if you want to. Repeat the same slow steps. If the bigger size feels like a struggle, go back to the small plug for another week or two. Going back is part of the process, not a failure.

Rest days matter. Leave at least a day between sessions at first so any tenderness settles completely. Never wear a plug overnight or for hours at a stretch.

Signs to slow down or stop

  • Sharp or burning pain, as opposed to a feeling of fullness or pressure.
  • Any bleeding beyond a tiny spot. If bleeding continues, or you notice pain when passing stools afterwards, see a doctor. Fissures and piles are common and treatable, and a doctor will not judge you.
  • Feeling tense, rushed or under pressure from a partner. Training only works when you are relaxed and willing.

Hygiene without fuss

Use the toilet beforehand and wash the area with warm water. You do not need an enema to use a small plug. Put a towel down, keep wipes nearby, and wash the plug straight after use with warm water and mild, unscented soap. Our toy cleaning guide explains what each material needs. Never move a toy from anal to vaginal use without washing it first, or covering it with a fresh condom.

In a shared flat or a joint family home, a plug in its own pouch inside a locked drawer is usually private enough. Orders from us arrive in a plain box with no product names on the label, and cash on delivery is available.

Training with a partner

If a partner is involved, the person receiving sets the pace every single time. Agree a simple word that means “stop now”, and let them control insertion in the early weeks. Many couples start with the plug as part of foreplay rather than the main event, which keeps the pressure low. If you are completely new to plugs, read our guide to butt plugs for beginners first, then come back to this plan.

Frequently asked questions

How long does anal training take?

There is no set time. Many people spend two to four weeks getting fully comfortable with a small plug before trying a medium one. Go at the speed your body allows.

Is anal training safe?

It is safe when you use toys with a flared base, plenty of lube and no numbing products, and stop at any sharp pain. See a doctor about bleeding or pain that lasts.

What size plug should a beginner start with?

Start with a plug whose widest point is under 32 mm, ideally with a tapered tip and a slim neck. Width matters far more than length.

Can I wear a plug all day?

No. Keep sessions short at first and build up to around 15 to 20 minutes. Never wear a plug overnight or for hours.
