Cleaning your toys is the easiest way to keep them safe, hygienic and working well for years. It only takes a minute, and the routine is the same for most toys.
Before and after every use
- Check the label: is your toy waterproof, splash-proof or not water-resistant at all? This decides how you wash it.
- Waterproof toys: wash with warm water and a mild, unscented soap, or spray with a dedicated toy cleaner. Rinse well.
- Non-waterproof toys: never submerge them. Wipe with a damp cloth and a little soap or toy cleaner, avoiding the charging port.
- Dry completely with a clean, lint-free towel or let it air-dry before storing.
Tip: a toy cleaner spray such as pjur Toy Clean is the quickest option. Spray, wait a moment, rinse or wipe, and you are done.
Cleaning by material
- Silicone, ABS plastic, glass and metal: non-porous and easy to clean with soap and water or toy cleaner.
- TPE / soft “skin-like” materials: slightly porous. Wash gently, dry thoroughly and dust with a little cornflour or renewing powder if the maker recommends it.
How to store your toys
- Keep each toy in its own pouch or box so materials do not react with each other.
- Store them somewhere cool, dry and out of direct sunlight.
- Charge rechargeable toys every few months so the battery stays healthy.
When to replace a toy
If a toy is cracked, sticky, discoloured or has a lasting smell, it is time to replace it. Damage creates tiny gaps where bacteria can hide.
